TexTESOL 2017 State Conference
Many Voices, One Vision: Advocacy through Education
November 2-4, 2017
Organized by TexTESOL IV, this Professional Development Conference provides ELT paraprofessionals, pre-service teachers, teachers, teacher trainers, and administrators with the current methods, strategies, and discourse in ELT training.
The PDC format offers in-depth, hands-on workshops, round-tables, and other sessions styles led by globally and regionally recognized experts to provide you with practical, research-based ideas, strategies, and tools to help you improve the quality of your ELT instruction.
You will also have numerous opportunities for networking and knowledge-sharing with your peers during this three-day event.
Who Should Attend?
ELT teachers, leaders, administrators, and teacher trainers from universities, K–12 systems, and private language schools, and others with an interest in ELT issues.
CEU’s will be offered for this event. Further information will be provided on how participants gain cerificates for CEU’s.
Session and session presenter information will be forthcoming as the conference gets closer.
John Seidlitz – Friday, 11.3.17
John Seidlitz is an independent educational consultant and the author of Sheltered Instruction Plus: A Guide for Texas Teachers of English Learners; ELLs in Texas: What Teachers Need to Know; and a contributing author for The SIOP® Model for Teaching History-Social Studies for English Learners.
He is the co-author of numerous publications including the 7 Steps to Developing a Language-Rich Interactive Classroom®. Mr. Seidlitz has been a member of the SIOP® National faculty and guest lecturer for many regional and national language development conferences.
He taught social studies and ESL, served as a secondary ESL program coordinator, and held the position of education specialist at ESC Region 20 in San Antonio, Texas. In 2005, Mr. Seidlitz founded Seidlitz Education which is dedicated to the mission of Giving Kids the Gift of Academic Language™.
Stephen Krashen – Saturday, 11.4.17
Stephen Krashen is best known for developing the first comprehensive theory of second language acquisition. He has also contributed to the areas of language teaching, bilingual education and literacy. He holds a PhD in Linguistics from UCLA, as well as an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, awarded by Lewis and Clark College, Portland. He was elected a member of the Reading Hall of Fame in 2005.
He was the 1977 Incline Bench Press champion of Venice Beach, California and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Please follow him on twitter (skrashen) so he can achieve his goal of catching up to Justin Bieber.
